Songs
A supra is made of three things: the toast, the wine and the song. These are the songs heard at every Georgian table — with their words, and a note on when each is sung.
The words are folk, or by authors gone for more than a century. There are no recordings here — those belong to the singers.
MravalzhamierKakhetian table song, three voices — traditional
When: Follows a toast of honour — to the host, the elders, the person the table is for. A song and a wish at once: „many years“, a long life to you.
The words are free; the long form often sings aphorisms. The short form is only the address and the thanks: „Mravalzhamier, may God will your life; I thank you for the toast“.

Shen khar venakhi (You are a vineyard)Iambic hymn — King Demetre I, 12th century
When: A hymn to the Virgin. At the table it is sung at the toast to the Holy Virgin or at the memorial toast — standing, quietly.
By Erkomaishvili's account the old Kakhetian table opened with such „feast hymns“.

ChakruloKartli-Kakheti table song — traditional
When: At the toast to Georgia, to the forebears and to those who died for the homeland — standing. On the Voyager Golden Record since 1977.
Several texts exist; the sung version settled in the 1950s. Given here as the folk poetry prints it.

Mumli mukhasa (The gnat on the oak)Kakhetian jesting song — traditional, in print since 1896
When: Mid-table, when the mood rises; also at the toast to Georgia — the oak is Georgia, the gnats its enemies. The last verse is itself a blessing.
Pagan in origin, polished into a three-voice song in the 19th century. The lyrics site spells the refrain „მამლი“; the encyclopaedic „მუმლი“ is used here.

Gaprindi, shavo mertskhalo (Fly, black swallow)Kakhetian — folk text
When: At the memorial toast, in memory of those killed in war. Not a drinking song but a lament — listened to in silence to the end.
The words are folk; Kote Potskhverashvili only arranged it for choir.
